HYUNDAI Heavy Industries Co. is expected to win a US$650 million deal to build ten ships for Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL), comprising four 14,400 TEU container ships and six 50,000 dwt product tankers, as the nation’s trade volumes are on the rise, according to TradeWins.
The global shipping news service said the ships will be delivered starting from the third quarter of 2018.
If signed, the contract will mark Iran’s first agreement with a foreign shipbuilder since the lifting of international sanctions on the Middle Eastern nation, reported Real Iran.
A Hyundai official was quoted as saying: “(We) are in consultations (with the Iranian side on the possible contract) but it’s not decided yet.”
