Novorossiysk port to boost ship handling capacity to 10,000 TEU

BLACK SEA – NOVOROSSIYSK

OOO Ruscon, the operator of the container terminal at the Black Sea Port of Novorossiysk says that it is expanding the loading capacity to accommodate 8,000 to 10,000-TEU ships from 2018.

The terminal operator is also looking into fixing the berthing windows and extending ocean-going services to the port that is able to accommodate vessels with a draft up to 19 metres, and the inner port waters, up to 12.5 metres.

However, the company warned that the container business in Novorossiysk is facing a number of problems, including rising bunker costs, the imbalance of weight characteristics of exports and imports, the seasonality of demand, weather conditions, restrictions on places on ships, as well as the limited capacity of terminals for handling ships of more than 4,000 TEU, Maritime Herald, Verna Bulgaria reported.

OOO Ruscon is subsidiary of the Delos group. It is an intermodal operator providing cargo delivery services for containers throughout Russia and CIS countries.
